Referee José Arnoldo Amaya has died after being beaten during a match in El Salvador’s amateur championship. It is reported by Diario El Salvador.
The incident took place on June 12 in San Salvador. The 63-year-old referee showed a red card to one of the players, which caused discontent among the meeting participants. Amaya was beaten by a group of players and spectators, the referee was hospitalized, but a few hours later he died in the hospital from internal bleeding.
The police clarified that so far no one has been detained as a result of the conflict. Law enforcement officers are trying to find out who exactly inflicted injuries on the arbitrator, which led to the death of the victim.
In October 2020, defender Churchill Owachi was killed during a football match in Uganda. The player in one of the episodes made a mistake, due to which teammates beat him to death.
